Sportback g-tron : 2014 Audi A3

Audi is taking an oversized step towards property quality with the A3 Sportback g-tron. The compact five-door automotive, owing to create its debut at the tip of the year, is supercharged by the CO2-neutral fuel Audi e-gas. The fuel are going to be made within the power-to-gas plant in Werlte, Germany. This new automotive innovatively combines ecological balance, economy and hi-tech solutions.

The Audi A3 Sportback g-tron comes with the total gamut of Audi’s technology experience – from ultra-lightweight technology, and motion-picture show, to driver help systems. however 1st and foremost it showcases progressive CNG drive technology, beginning with the fuel storage. Its 2 tanks underneath the baggage compartment floor will every hold seven kilograms (15.43 lb) of CNG at a most two hundred bar pressure. In tune with the ultra-lightweight construction conception, every tank weighs twenty seven kilograms (59.52 lb) but its typical counterpart.

The tanks include a brand new variety of matrix. The inner layer consists of gas-impermeable polymeric amide compound, whereas a second layer of carbon fiber-reinforced compound (CFRP) provides the tank its extraordinarily high strength; a 3rd layer of fiber bolstered compound (GFRP) provides rugged protection against injury from the skin. High-strength epoxy glue is employed to bind the fiber bolstered materials.

A second highlight of the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron is its electronic pressure regulator. This compact and light-weight element reduces the high of the gas flowing from the cylinders all the way down to around 5 to 9 bar in 2 stages.

It ensures that the proper pressure is usually gift within the gas rail and at the gizmo valves – air mass for economical driving within the lower speed vary, and better once the driving force demand additional power and torsion.

If the pressure within the tank drops below 10 bar, the engine management system mechanically switches over to fuel operation. The Audi A3 Sportback g-tron is absolutely bivalent, i.e. its performance figures area unit identical in CNG and fuel modes.

CNG provides a variety – supported normal fuel consumption – of around four hundred metric linear unit (248.55 miles), with fuel providing another 900 metric linear unit (559.23 miles) if necessary; the entire vary is roughly on a par with Associate in Nursing Audi TDI. 2 displays within the instrument cluster give the driving force with up-to-date data on the stockpile in every of the tanks. the driving force system additionally displays the present fuel consumption supported the actual in operation mode.

The two filler necks area unit placed underneath a typical fuel flap. once provision, and whenever it's terribly cold, the engine is started with fuel at first, then it's changed to fossil fuel as quickly as attainable.

The engine relies on the new one.4 TFSI. Key modifications relate to the plate, turbocharging, injection system, and also the converter. Developing eighty one power unit (110 hp) and two hundred Nm of torsion, the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron features a high speed of one hundred ninety km/h (118.06 mph), with zero to a hundred km/h (0 - sixty two.14 mph) taking eleven seconds. The five-door automotive consumes on the average but three.5 kilograms per a hundred metric linear unit of CNG or Audi e-gas – the fuel that's generated from eco-electricity within the Audi e-gas project. greenhouse gas pipage emissions area unit but ninety five grams per metric linear unit (152.89 g/mile) in gas mode.

The greenhouse emission balance is even additional enticing in an exceedingly well-to-wheel analysis that accounts for all factors from the fuel supply to the car’s wheels. once the A3 Sportback g-tron is supercharged by Audi e-gas, no additional greenhouse gas is discharged than was with chemicals input in its production beforehand – making a closed-loop system. once the energy needed to make the e-gas facility and wind generation generators is enclosed in an exceedingly comprehensive analysis, greenhouse gas emissions area unit still but thirty grams per metric linear unit (48.28 g/mile).

Buyers of the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron can presumptively get the e-gas at the general public CNG provision stations via Associate in Nursing ecological accounting methodology, the same as the tactic presently alive for getting eco-electricity.

With the e-gas project, Audi is that the 1st automobile manufacturer to develop a complete chain of property energy carriers. the beginning of the chain has electricity created from renewable energy sources; the tip product area unit H and also the artificial Audi e-gas. Construction of the world’s 1st works to supply artificial methane series (e-gas) from greenhouse gas and renewable electricity is sort of complete in Werlte (Emsland district of Lower Saxony), Germany.

The Audi e-gas plant uses the renewable electricity within the 1st stage for electrolysis – rending water into O and H (Audi e-hydrogen), that might in the future power fuel-cell vehicles. as a result of there's not however a widespread H infrastructure, however, the H is then reacted with greenhouse gas in an exceedingly methanation plant to supply renewable artificial methane series, or Audi e-gas. with chemicals speaking, this e-gas is a twin of fossil-based fossil fuel. As such, it are often distributed to CNG stations via the natural-gas network.

Thanks to the power-to-gas method, the electricity grid and gas network area unit being coupled bidirectionally for the primary time. heretofore whereas you'll generate electricity from gas, the reverse wasn't attainable. The Audi e-gas plant so paves the means for sound into the natural-gas network with its vast capability as a storage and transport system for thus far excess electricity capability.

The greenhouse gas employed in Audi’s e-gas plant may be a waste product from a close-by biogas plant, operated by power utility EWE. The CO2, which might otherwise grime the atmosphere, is with chemicals warranted into the fuel at the Audi e-gas plant. The e-gas plant can annually turn out regarding one,000 metric loads of e-gas and can with chemicals bind some two,800 metric loads of greenhouse gas. This corresponds roughly to the number of greenhouse gas that 224,000 beech trees absorb in an exceedingly year.

The CO2-neutral e-gas from Werlte can power one,500 new Audi A3 Sportback g-tron vehicles fifteen,000 kilometers (9,320.57 miles) per annum. the ability trade also can take pleasure in Audi’s e-gas project, because it addresses the shrewish challenge of a way to store massive quantities of renewable electricity created from wind turbines and electrical phenomenon systems with efficiency and regardless of location. The electricity-gas cogeneration technology might considerably foster the growth of renewable energies.

Chevrolet Chevelle Z16 : 1965

The Z16 Malibu SS. Option RPO Z16 was introduced mid-year, 1965, to give the public a preview of what was to come the following year. Adding RPO Z16 to the Malibu SS was the logical choice in which to introduce the new Mk IV big-block 396 V8. This special Malibu SS included a host of performance and comfort options packaged in a sporty two-door hardtop or convertible. Chevrolet had finally played their ace in the hole.

chevy chevelle fs1 65

Chevrolet produced just 201 Malibus with the rare Z16 option; 200 hardtops and just one convertible. Most of the Malibu Z16's went to top GM executives and famous personalities such as the late Dan Blocker of TV's Bonanza fame.
A small number were shipped to dealerships and made their way into the hands of the general public. With RPO Z16, Chevrolet had laid the groundwork for the introduction of the 1966 Chevelle SS 396 as a stand-alone model.
(source: Chevell Fan )

The Z-16 was totally different from its other 65 Chevelle siblings on the inside. When identifying a Z-16 from the exterior was not so easy due to its subtle differences. For starters, the Z-16 was available in only 3 colors... Regal Red, Tuxedo Black and Crocus Yellow.
The Malibu emblems reassigned to the front fenders behind the front wheel wells, the blackened out rear taillight panel and the front fender mounted 396 flag emblems as well as a rear trunk lid Malibu SS 396 emblem, the most significant designations of the Z-16, were subtle identifying cues to distinguish the Z-16 from other models in the Chevelle lineup.
Built on the Malibu SS model, the Z-16 was an impressive showcase of engineering ability. The car included a Muncie 4-speed transmission, slightly wider Firestone Gold-line tires, simulated mag wheel covers. To compensate for the heavier engine-bay-filling 396 V8, the car was built on a stronger convertible frame along with a brawnier suspension that included front and rear sway bars, heavy duty control arms, as well as mammoth 11-inch brakes and hydraulic power-assisted steering for more responsive handling.
New interior appointments were added including front and rear seatbelts with retractors, a wood grain steering wheel, a dash-mounted clock, a 160 mph speedometer and 6000 rpm tachometer and a multiplex AM/FM stereo system with underside dash mounted controls and more. All these features increased the base sticker price by more than half.

Dual-stage front-seat air bags, front-seat side thorax air bags and rollover capable head curtain air bags covering front and rear rows are standard on all models.
Other standard safety features include front-row safety belt pretensioners, Pedal Release System that decouples the brake pedal in a crash to avoid injuries, active head restraints, tire pressure monitoring system, automatic power door locks and side turn signal lamps.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible : 2013

Chevrolet has announced the brand’s most-powerful convertible ever – the 2013 Camaro ZL1 – will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. When it goes on sale in late 2012, it will deliver more performance and technology than many exotic cars and ultra-luxury convertibles.

chevrolet camaro zl1 conv 13 01
2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible.
“The Camaro ZL1 convertible will be one of the most powerful and most capable, convertibles available at any price,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top – or hit the gas.”
Like the coupe, the Camaro ZL1 convertible features a supercharged 6.2L “LSA” engine, SAE-rated at 580 horsepower (432 kW) and 556 lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm). That’s enough to exceed the output of 2+2 convertibles of many performance icons, including:
• 2012 Aston Martin DB9 Volante – 470 hp / 443 lb.-ft.
• 2012 Mercedes SL63 AMG – 518 hp / 465 lb.-ft.
• 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S – 530 hp / 516 lb.-ft.
• 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 – 550 hp / 510 lb.-ft.
The Camaro ZL1 convertible’s power is complemented by advanced powertrain and chassis technologies designed to deliver exceptional performance on the road or track. In fact, it’s the same balance of acceleration, handling and ride quality that enabled a Camaro ZL1 coupe recently to lap the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife course in 7:41.27 minutes.
From Day One, the architecture for the fifth-generation Camaro was designed to accommodate a convertible model, which gives the ZL1 convertible coupe-like driving dynamics. Four strategic reinforcements enhance the already-stiff body structure to quell the cowl and steering wheel shake common in convertibles. They include:
• A tower-to-tower brace under the hood
• A transmission support reinforcement brace
• Underbody tunnel brace
• Front “X” brace and stiffer cradle as well as rear underbody “V” braces.
Additional structural reinforcements in the ZL1 convertible are designed to improve noise and vibration characteristics, while also reducing unwanted ride and body motions. They include a hydroformed tube in the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers.
The suspension of the ZL1 convertible uses the third-generation of Magnetic Ride. New, twin-wire/dual-coil dampers at all four corners enable faster response, with damping levels now adjusted up to 1,000 times per second – about one adjustment per inch of vehicle travel at 60 mph – making the system exceptionally responsive to changing driving and road conditions.
The Camaro ZL1 convertible will also offer Performance Traction Management as standard equipment, which is exclusive to General Motors. First introduced on the Corvette ZR1, it is an advanced system that integrates magnetic ride control, launch control, traction control and electronic stability control, to enhance both launch-acceleration performance and corning.
The result is a convertible designed to preserve nearly all the acceleration, road-holding and performance capabilities of the Camaro ZL1 coupe, which goes on sale in early 2012.
