In 1958, Austin launched the A40 Mk I with Italian styling by Pinin Farina who incorporated a unique and revolutionary feature & a hatchback rear door.
With a 948cc engine, the A40 was economical, reliable and an immediate success.
The Mark II with longer wheelbase, wider front grille and an up rated 1098cc engine was introduced in 1961 and was available in saloon and estate (Countryman) versions.
Around 340,000 models were built until production ceased in 1967.
