On it's first racing season, the BMW 3.0 CSL took the European Championship title. Five more where to follow, and both factory and private teams won a large number of national and international races.

In 1975 the factory concentrated its efforts on events in the USA, with spectacular successes in the IMSA series and victory for BMW in the manufacturer's rankings.
