BMW’s post world war period of big long sedans began with the 501 – with 100 horse power and a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour it was a symbol for the powerful BMW brand.
Nicknamed "The Baroque Angel" for it's elongated profile. The 502 followed and while the vehicles were never profitable for BMW, production of almost 13,000 continued until 1963.
